Football Freestyle – Freestyle Football
Football freestyle is a relatively new sport that is about to do different tricks with a soccer ball. The tricks can be performed with all the different body parts such as feet, knees, shoulders, head and hands to some extent.
Doing tricks with a football is something that almost every football player likes to do. The idea behind football freestyle is nothing new and it’s something that footballers have done for centuries.
It was the beginning of the 2000s as the sport began to spread mainly because of Nike commercials with soccer star Edgar Davids did some simple freestyle tricks. The Nike commercials quickly became popular and football players all over the world started training at David’s tricks.
Internet is another reason why the sport grew so much during the early 2000s because many freestylers started to post their videos on the internet. A video that quickly became popular was a video that Soufiane Touzani recorded. The video , which mixed standing football freestyle tricks with dribbling along the ground also known as groundmoves in freestyle circles quickly became popular and spread very quickly. A main reason why the video was so popular is partly Touzains skill but also the matching music “Nuttin No Go So”.
When the sport became more popular it also began to be more and more competitions around the world. One of the first major competitions was “Masters of the Game” in 2006 in Amsterdam, which was won by John Farnworth.
In 2008 it was the first world championsips in Brazil. The contest, which was arranged by Red Bull and was called Red Bull Street Style had competitions all over the world. From each competition did one participant qualify and in the end they had 42 freestylers from different countries qualified for the finals in Brazil. The competition was extremely high quality and had some really good battles but eventually won the Frenchman Arnaud “Sean” Garnier entirely fair after an outstanding performance.
During the 2010 World Cup was also the second RedBull Street Style held in Cape Town, South Africa. The quality of this competition was even better than two years earlier and after many hard battles won the Norwegian Anders “Azun” Solum after a tough duel with hometown favorite Kamalio Ranchod.
